5D Mark II
The 5D Mark II currently has an instant $500 rebate in Canada.
I do not recall ever seeing that big of a rebate on a camera body. The 800 f/5.6 which costs about 5 times more than a 5D Mark II has a $1000 rebate.
I’ve received some info about a new Hybrid camera for September that is a giant leap forward.
I’m not saying 5D Mark III, but that’s a big rebate for an “affordable” camera.
D700 replacement imminent?
60D
Various reports of reps saying a 60D is on the near horizon.
A lot more stores reporting a dried up inventory of 50D’s and inability to get more.
100-400 Replacement
More reports of a 100-400 replacement.
I’m going to say it isn’t coming based on past experience ordering products that are about to be replaced. The 100-400 is still very easy to get from Canon Canada.
I’ll monitor this closely.
One thing that may suggest it’s coming is Nikon is preparing a replacement of the 80-400 I’m told. If we go by the 70-200 f/2.8 replacements, we could expect Canon to upgrade theirs as well.
I will note the 100-400 is a massive seller for Canon as it sits.
500 f/5.6 or 600 f/5.6
I’ve heard a couple request for both of these lenses. With the ISO abilities of camera bodies now, why do we need to lug around f/4 supertelephotos?
A replacement of the 400 f/5.6L with a 500 f/5.6L IS makes a pile of sense. A lot of people take the 100-400 over the 400 prime. A 500 prime at f/5.6 could cost $3000-$4000 and sell very well.
A 600 f/5.6? A lot less likely. I’d expect to see a 600 DO first.
Canon G12
The next “G” will be CMOS equipped and shoot HD video. I’m told I can guarantee it. Not really a reach after seeing the SD4000.
Another suggestion is a form factor change and a better optical VF.
Gearing up for Rumor Season
A lot more little things are coming in now. Expect things to take off soon.

call me crazy but.. this rebate made me feel that the 5d mark II will not be replaced. Instead, a higher camera model will be introduced. Maybe something that is totall new..
Hmmm, in Malaysia also the street price has gone done about USD500 early May…..
My own wishes:
- Lower noise, better ISO performance
- Better dynamic
- More video mode 720p, 24, 25, 30 fps…
- Better AF
I would love a “portable” (above 1,5 Kg) super tele stawrtint at 400 with high optical quality and IS.
I do not need more megapixel. 21 is enough and my PC “just fast enough”.
So Canon, reading this forum?
Bye
Hopefully we will see the EF-S 15-70mm f/4 IS USM very soon then.
1ds4 is ready for prime time. all algorithm and sensor tests completed in tohoku. will be announced when the leaves change color. no new hybrid camera other than 1ds4.
Why are rumors (or rumor topics) now posted without a rumor-rating? Are these all CR0? Or CR1? Or…?
I recently took a 1-week test drive with a rented Canon 100-400 while on a vacation with wildlife photo opportunities. I got some photos with that lens I would not have gotten without it, but overall I was pretty dissatisfied with both design and optics. I was VERY glad I had rented and not bought. This is a lens I would never buy unless it came at a bargain basement price.
Since then I have purchased a used 400mm f/5.6L fixed for just under a grand. With this lens, I have traded off IS and zoom capabilities, but, holy crap, I get much sharper photos with much less weight, sweat and eyestrain.
100-400 has GOT to be near the head of the line for a Canon upgrade. And Murphy’s law would seem to dictate a release soon since I just spent the money on this lens.
I’d expect $2500.00 or more as a list price.
Both…and more.
Not sure what you mean by “more exposure bracketing range”, but I’ll second it anyway.
What I need is more exposures, not wider increment. The standard zero/plus/minus 3-frame thing won’t cut it. Many HDR situations I deal with need at least 5 frames bracketed by about 1.3 stop increments. 7 to 9 brackets in an HDR is not at all unheard of for me, and I know other photographers report using more exposures than that.
Come on, Canon. That should just be a firmware thing.
If you check out some of the deals now I just saw aden Camera in Toronto listing the 1D MarkIII for $1800.00 of MSRP down to $7000.00
I dont get this site anymore…are you supposed to publish rumors or supposed to just say I know something but I can’t tell ya what it is?
)
I do believe Canon is creating a line up to make me spend some money…. I bet a new 100-400, though, will be a very pretty penny. Probably over $2k, right? Ouch…
El Moronico strikes again.
“Soon”, “on the horizon”, could you translate that to a timeframe the rest of us can understand? One week, one month, three months? Are we talking about releases or just announcements?
